The Sophies golden METHOD

Potty training a litter

Potty training should start with the breeder. The first step toward potting training a puppy. starts at just two weeks old. I know your thinking how is that possible, We just place a flat card board box in the whelping box at two weeks a few todays before we transfer them to the kennel room. once we bring them to the next step. We give them mostly card board flooring and slowly make it smaller until they are all going in the designated potty area. at about 5 weeks the next 3 weeks we focus on teaching outside is where you use the bathroom. After puppies eat, they naturally feel the need to eliminate. So we take them out the front door so that they learn to go outside. Puppies raised using this method are easier to housebreak and have fewer accidents in the house, as you are distilling the concept of housebreaking to them at a very young age. They learn from the start there is a place to sleep, a place to play, a place to eat and a place to eliminate and they will carry this concept with them after they leave us. Puppies who are raised in cages where the areas are not separated do not understand this concept. They learn they can eliminate anywhere they wish at any time they wish. Then, after you take them home, you suddenly expect them to understand they cannot pee and poo in the house.

Last Step.

At six weeks, the puppies do very well eliminating where they are supposed to go. the last two weeks we have them most of them no longer poo in doors , they may still pee in the pool but poo is outside for the most part. However, they don't have a complete aversion to mess. I routinely see them spending time in the potty area sleeping or chewing a toy or playing with another puppy that is in there to "go." at eight weeks old you will have to give them time to learn there new home with you, a few days and a couple steps your puppy should be potty trained in your home within a week or two from leaving there litter. As you can see in the pictures each phase of potty training we do to help your puppy have the best potty training they can.

We continue this process the remainder of their time with us.

Why it’s so important for training to start with the breeder.
